The Houston Chevron Marathon

I trained for the Houston Marathon for nearly 8 months only to hurt my knee (running on Atlanta's fantastic Silver Comet Trail) two weeks before the race. I thought the pain would go away if I rested it for a while. No such luck. Finally with just 3 days before the race, I went in to a doc and begged for a cortisone shot. I got it and scheduled a follow-up visit for after the race to get an X-ray and MRI.

The energy at the start of the race was intense. I encourage everyone to ruin a knee and run a marathon!

That's me in the back....

Amie added some bling to my Katy Fit shirt the night before the race.
(Hated the purple shirt, but I wanted to support my local running club)

These pictures represent the 10 good miles that I actually ran...and at a great pace.

My fan club kept popping up several times throughout the race.
Thanks guys!

The last 13 miles were gruelling. The pain in my knee was intense. I thought these pictures did a good job in capturing my disappointment. Stupid knee.

My extremely hot sponsor!

I had 10 good miles that I ran right on pace for my goal of 4 hours 15 minutes. I slowed it down at mile 10 to attempt to ward off the knee pain. However, somewhere between mile 14 and 15 I had to revert to the most laborious 13 miles of walking in my life. I did finish the race in 5 1/2 hours, just within the 6 hour cutoff. Yeah, I beat a couple people.
