Meet Andy

Amie has a weakness for small, cute things. Unfortunately (for some of us), that means sometimes we get a new child and other times we get a new puppy (remember Bob?).... Well, on July 7th we ended up with a puppy--a little Maltipoo, named Andy. She sneaked him into the family by claiming he was her birthday present, but unknowingly she actually got much more.

Immediately after joining our family, Andy fell victim to the awful Parvo Virus--a canine virus that kills nearly 80% of its victims from the inside-out. After diagnosis our vet gave the poor guy a 2-3 hour window to live and told us that there wasn't anything we could do. Without any apparent options we did what we could to keep Andy as comfortable as possible for the last remaining moments of his life, and then we painfully watched as life continued to drain from this new little puppy.

As we were making preparations to bury Andy, Kaeta informed us that "everything is going to be okay because I prayed and told Heavenly Father that I believe in Him and know that He will heal my dog". (Sometimes it takes the perfect faith of a child to remind us old folk who is in charge!) Faced with the "knowledge" of Andy's condition and the vet's diagnosis, we as parents had to get on our knees and pray for the simple faith of our child.

It was a long night and sometime around 2 AM we collapsed from exhaustion. At 4 AM Amie shot out of bed to check on Andy, but was confused when she didn't find him on his bed. Alarmed, she yelled out for help. After looking for a brief moment she found Andy playfully wagging his tail under the bathroom vanity. Tears of relief and gratitude rolled down our cheeks.

Although it took a lot more care to bring Andy back from the dead, we knew he was something special and worth our efforts. The amazed vet said it best when he proclaimed "Well, ma'am, I can't say as if I ever believed in miracles before today, but there is no other way to describe this."

We are grateful for our miracle dog and proudly proclaim that God is a God of miracles who loves even the smallest of His creations. ..and listens to them too! Thanks Kaeta!

Note: What happened to Bob? No, Bob didn't die. He was a great dog, but a little too snippy for our family. After biting Kaeta on the face (twice in two days) we felt it would be better for him and our family if he went to a new home. We knew that Bob needed a home with another dog, so we gave him to a good family that was looking for a second dog.
